The UK government thinks the US could sanction the human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney, due to her involvement in guiding the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor on arrest warrants for Israel’s politicians, Middle East Eye reported on June 4th.

The UK Foreign Office had said to UK lawyers who were taking part in the International Criminal Court (ICC) war crimes case involving Israeli leaders, that they could be affected by US sanctions.

This happened after the US enforced financial and visa sanctions on the ICC’s UK chief prosecutor Karim Khan, during February. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-Defence Minister Yoav Gallant were handed arrest warrants by the ICC in November 2024.
