The Trump administration has supported the Syrian government’s plan to bring in ex-rebel and foreign fighters into Syria’s army, The New Arab via Reuters reported on June 3rd.

The US is in support of the move as long as its implementation is transparent, US ambassador to Turkey and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, said.

The move would mean that roughly 3,500 foreign fighters, who are mainly Chinese and Central Asian Uyghurs, would enter the Syrian’s army’s 84th Division, together with Syrian citizens. Barrack said to Reuters: “I would say there is an understanding, with transparency.”
