The Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris dissolved Sudan’s interim government, Middle East Monitor via Reuters reported on June 2nd.

The news agency, SUNA, did not state any timetable for forming the next administration, which will become the first government since fighting erupted between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, acting head of state, appointed Idris to the premiership. Meanwhile, the RSF has declared its intention to set up a rival administration alongside its allied parties.

The civil war has claimed at least 24,000 lives. Although the true death toll likely exceeds this figure. Over 14 million people have fled their homes, with over four million seeking refuge in neighbouring nations.

The United Nations and human rights organisations report widespread atrocities, particularly in Darfur, such as widespread rape, targeted ethnic killings that constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity. At the same time, a recent cholera outbreak has sparked a health crisis, France 24 and AFP reported on May 29th.
