An outbreak of cholera in Khartoum in Sudan has killed 70 people, health officials announced on May 29th, as the capital faces a health crisis after over two years of war, France 24 and AFP reported.

Khartoum state’s health ministry said on May 28th it recorded 942 new infections and 25 cases of deaths, after 1,177 cases of cholera and 45 deaths recorded on May 27th.

The rise in infections follows drone strikes that destroyed water and electricity provisions in Khartoum. The city has faced devastation due to conflict between Sudan’s army and the country’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The outbreak has overstretched the country’s healthcare system.
