Elon Musk has departed from President Donald Trump’s administration to focus more on his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, Africanews reported via AP on May 29th.
Before the 2024 US election, Musk swiftly changed from campaign funder to a close advisor, who was frequently seen on the campaign trail. Later, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) gave him a 130-day mandate, during which he led efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. His drive caused major disruptions, including agency overhauls and job cuts. However, he did not manage to create the savings he had promised.
Although his position in the administration was short-term, Musk’s departure came shortly after he condemned Trump’s tax and spending bill. He described it as a “disappointment” and said it undermined his activities at the department. His involvement in politics had drawn criticism from investors, who wanted him to focus on Tesla’s struggles. A White House official confirmed his exit and said relations with Trump remain positive.
According to the BBC on February 26th, Elon Musk’s attendance at President Trump’s first cabinet meeting was of notable significance, underscoring his growing influence within the administration.
His early involvement has been marked by controversy, reflecting a turbulent entry into his advisory role. Musk’s assertive contributions to the meeting highlighted his interests in shaping federal policy, particularly in advancing the administration’s agenda for governmental downsizing.
Previously, Donald Trump shared an AI-generated satirical video on Truth Social on February 26th, portraying Gaza as a beach resort, The Guardian reported on March 6th and Levantis cited.
The video featured Trump with Netanyahu on sun loungers and Elon Musk eating flatbread. Musk’s presence underscored the video’s attempt to draw attention to the globally recognised tech figure, within a political context.
