Israeli opposition leader says PM should accept ceasefire proposal

Yair Lapid, the Israeli opposition leader, has urged Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to okay a truce deal, which has been brokered by an American envoy, Middle East Eye reported on May 29th.

On X, Lapid said: “Israel must publicly and immediately accept the outline published this morning by American mediator Steve Witkoff.”

The opposition also emphasised that the prime minister “has a full safety net” from Lapid to give the proposal the green light.

Meanwhile, Israel’s forces have stormed Duma, located to the south of Nablus, in the run up to homes being destroyed, Al Jazeera reported on May 29th.
