The Rapid Support Forces of Sudan (RSF) took control of North Darfur’s Zamzam displacement camp after a lethal three-day military operation, Africanews via agencies reported on May 26th.
The military assault caused the deaths of more than 400 civilians, such as women, children and aid staff. It also left roughly 400,000 residents with no choice but to escape.
The forces tried to justify their actions by claiming that Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) were using the camp as a military site and using civilians as shields. But humanitarian groups have denounced the military campaign. The Sudan conflict, which started in April 2023, has brought turmoil to the country.
