Tom Fletcher, the UN humanitarian chief, warned that 14,000 Gazan babies could die within 48 hours if aid does not reach them, the BBC reported on May 20th.
He said thousands of lorries packed with baby food and nutrition are ready to enter Gaza but remain blocked. Israel has claimed that Hamas has been stealing and misusing aid, a claim Hamas denies. On May 19th, Netanyahu stated Israel aims to prevent famine but will permit only minimal delivery of essential supplies.
Children in Gaza face unbearable suffering, with thousands killed, widespread hunger, and nowhere safe amid ongoing violence. Khalil al-Daqran, medical director of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, warned that Gaza has entered the fifth and most extreme stage of malnutrition, Middle East Eye reported on April 24th.
In his Voice of Palestine interview, he said children are facing severe hunger. He added that around 200,000 chronically ill Palestinians could die due to a critical lack of food and medicine.
Additionally, on April 9th, Middle East Eye reported and Levantis cited that Gaza’s Ministry of Health warned of 60,000 children facing health threats from malnutrition.
The ministry linked the crisis to food and water shortages. Doctors have raised alarm as Israel’s blockade restricts aid, worsening hunger and dehydration in infants.
According to Save the Children, Israeli attacks have killed at least 15,000 children, as reported by Middle East Eye via Al Jazeera on April 7th. An unnamed spokesperson said the conflict has displaced 1.9 million people and warned that no place is safe for civilians, children, or health workers. The crisis deepened with over 50 aid trucks blocked from reaching those in need.
