Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on May 23rd that Israel’s next head of national intelligence needs to be appointed urgently, indicating a governmental focus on security provisions, according to Al-Monitor via AFP.

Netanyahu selected army Major General David Zini to be chief of the Shin Bet, but this has prompted threats of legal action. A statement from Netanyahu’s office said it is crucial to name a permanent leader for the “Shin Bet as soon as possible.”

The statement also said: “It is a security requirement of the highest order, and any delay infringes on the security of the state as well as that of our soldiers.”
