Head of WHO makes emotional plea for Israel to reach peace with Gaza

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 22nd, held in tears, as he called on Israel to allow food and medical provisions to enter Gaza and urged the country to reach peace with the territory, according to Al-Monitor via AFP.

In the organisation’s yearly assembly, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said: “A call for peace is actually in the best interests of Israel itself. I feel that the war is hurting Israel itself and it will not bring a lasting solution.”

Ghebreyesus stressed that it is immoral to “weaponise” food and medical provisions. On May 22nd, the UN started sending roughly 90 lorries of aid to Gaza.
