A student from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) was admitted to hospital after fainting on the ninth day of a hunger strike that was carried out in solidarity with Gazans facing a food crisis, Middle East Eye reported on May 20th.

Maya Abdullah, a 23-year-old Palestinian Lebanese film student, collapsed during her hunger strike on May 18th and was taken to hospital.

Abdullah’s protest comes at a time when hunger strikes have taken place at other universities, including Stanford University and California State University (CSU). Students from CSU were demanding that their university cuts financial ties with companies supplying weapons and surveillance technology to Israel.
