Tanzania introduces X restrictions following hacking attack on govt

Tanzania has introduced restrictions on the social networking site X after hackers targeted accounts of the government and private institutions, the BBC reported on May 21st.

The official police account on May 2oth was affected by the hacking attack, with sexual material being shown on the account as well as a falsehood about the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, being dead.

The police distanced itself from from the information and reported that a probe was taking place to find those behind the hacking. Hours afterwards, information from the internet monitoring group, Netblocks, revealed that across Tanzania, X was “unreachable on major internet providers.”
