The Israeli military said it intercepted a missile coming from Yemen toward its territory, as US President Donald Trump’s visited the Gulf region, Middle East Eye via Reuters reported on May 14th.

These attacks followed heavy Israeli airstrikes on Houthi infrastructure. In retaliation for a missile that hit Ben Gurion Airport, the IDF hit the airport in Sanaa, a port in Hodeida, a number of power stations, and a cement factory. Most international flights to Israel were suspended after the Ben Gurion strike. Wizz Air announced it plans to resume flights arriving to and departing from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on May 15th.

Two women sustained injuries while rushing to shelters. A 40-year-old woman in Holon fell and injured her lower body. Paramedics transported her to Wolfson Medical Center. A 65-year-old woman in Ramat Gan suffered a head injury and received care at Ichilov Medical Center.

Hours afterwards, another Houthi missile aimed at Israel landed not far outside of its borders. The military tracked the missile but did not activate sirens, as it did not present a threat.

Since March 18th, the Houthis have launched 31 ballistic missiles and at least 10 drones on Israel. Although some fell short, others caused real harm. Civilians continue rushing to shelters, as warning sirens echo through Israel.

Earlier in May, Trump announced a ceasefire with Yemen’s Houthis, stating that that his country would no longer attack the Ansar Allah group in Yemen, as they agreed to halt attacks on US ships.

However, the Houthis declared they will continue to fire missiles and drones on Israel. They have targeted multiple ships in the Red Sea, hindering trade in operations they say support Palestinians in Gaza.

Despite the ceasefire, regional tensions remain high. Israel’s swift response shows its readiness. Meanwhile, Houthi actions challenge diplomacy and threaten security in vital shipping lanes, leaving the conflict far from resolved.
