The Foreign Ministry of Algeria on May 19th condemned France for allegedly violating an agreement which exempts diplomatic passport carriers from visa requirements, with the North African country also saying it will retaliate.

Reportedly, unnamed sources have claimed that France had enforced visa requirements on Algerian officials who had diplomatic passports, according to Middle East Monitor via Anadolu Agency.

The ministry said Algeria “will respond by strictly and precisely applying the principle of reciprocity, in proportion to the extent of France’s breach of its commitments and obligations.” Algeria claimed that France’s decision-making is being discussed through “unofficial channels.”
