The US had been warned by King Abdullah II of Jordan to not assassinate the Syrian President, Ahmed al-Sharaa, ahead of the president meeting with Donald Trump, indicating hostility from the US towards Syria.

The statement, which came from US senator Senator Jeanne Shaheen, shows the deep-rooted animosity towards the Syrian president from some members of the US president’s administration, Middle East Eye reported on May 15th.

It also puts Trump’s remarks into context, as the president said that global leaders have tried to persuade him to give Syria’s leader a chance, while the advisors of Trump have had reservations about al-Sharaa.
