Clashes between Turkey’s military and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has ended in north Iraq, after the PKK’s efforts to halt its political conflict, Middle East Eye reported on May 16th.

On May 12th, the PKK said it would break up after negotiations between the government of Turkey and Abdullah Ocalan, the jailed PKK leader.

Since the group’s announcement, the region has reached a state of calm. But security forces who are informed on the subject have stressed that Turkey has not officially implemented a ceasefire. A security source from Turkey said: “There is no such thing as the Turkish armed forces declaring a ceasefire, withdrawing, or not intervening in hostile situations.”
