The US has reportedly withdrawn its long-established call for Hamas to lay down its arms as a condition for a Gaza ceasefire, The New Arab reported on May 10th.

US officials reportedly said that disarmament could be addressed at a later stage, rather than being a precondition for the agreement. In return, the US is reportedly demanding the release of all remaining Israeli captives at once.

Washington also acknowledged the difficulty of forcibly exiling members of Hamas’s armed wing and other groups, citing resistance from possible host countries and the big number of people Israel wants to expel.
