Pope urges for the release of jailed journalists

In an address to journalists in Rome, Pope Leo XIV announced the churches solidarity with jailed journalists who were put behind bars for attempting to report the truth, calling for these media workers to be freed, Africanews via AP reported on May 12th.

The pope also also called on the media to dismiss the “paradigm of war,” but rather use words that promote peace. The pope commended journalists who put their life on the line to reveal facts, referring to them as “witnesses of justice and dignity.”

His address was met with applause and a new sense of awareness to the issues facing international media freedom.
