Israel has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to withdraw its arrest warrants on Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the ex-Israeli defence minister, claiming the warrants are unlawful, Al-Monitor via AFP reported on May 12th.

In a document dated May 9th, which was published on the ICC’s website on May 12th, Israel claimed the warrants were invalid and unacceptable, amid judges examining a former Israeli challenge to the court’s jurisdiction concerning the case.

Israel claimed: “Depriving persons of their liberty on the basis of an arrest warrant issued in the absence of the necessary legal pre-conditions is an egregious violation of fundamental human rights and of the rule of law.”
