Hamas freed the US-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander on May 12th, who was the final known US captive in the Gaza Strip, in a bid to widen ceasefire efforts, according to France 24 with AFP, AP and Reuters.
The release happened in Khan Younis, south Gaza Strip, at a time of negotiations between the US and Hamas which intend to achieve a Gaza ceasefire.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, conveyed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump on May 12th for aiding the liberation of Alexander. On October 7th 2023, Alexander was abducted from his Israel military base in the Hamas attack that took place on the day.
