The Eurovision Song Contest’s 2024 winner has joined growing calls for Israel’s exclusion from this year’s competition, the New Arab reported on May 10th.

The ex-winner, Nemo, who is a Swiss singer, said that Israel’s military actions undermine the core values Eurovision claims to promote. This year’s competition is set to take place in Switzerland from May 13th to May 17th, and several European broadcasters have raised concerns about Israel’s participation.

Israel’s entrant, singer Yuval Raphael, has faced widespread opposition from ex-participants and pro-Palestinian activists. More than 70 ex-contestants also signed an open letter calling on the European Broadcasting Union, the contest’s organiser, to reconsider Israel’s inclusion.
