Palestinian Pulitzer winner’s social media suspended, stirring outcry

The owner of Facebook and Instagram, Meta, temporarily suspended the account of a Palestinian poet and essayist on May 5th, hours after he earned a Pulitzer Prize for essays on Israel’s war on Gaza for the New Yorker.
Mosab Abu Toha had declared his award in an X post and dedicated his award to relatives killed in Israeli attacks as well as other Palestinian victims, Middle East Eye reported on May 7th.
But 12 hours after he declared his award, Meta suspended his Facebook account, which sparked criticism online. The investigative journalist, Meghnad Bose, said this is “the latest high-profile instance of Meta’s disproportionate censorship of content related to Palestine.”
