US says campaign against Yemen has launched over 1,000 strikes

The United States has intensified its military campaign against Yemen, with a White House official confirming that American forces have carried out over 1,000 strikes so far, Middle East Eye reported on May 4th.
James Hewitt, spokesperson for the US National Security Council, stated that Washington continues to focus on stopping the Houthis’ from disrupting shipping routes in the Red Sea.
“The [US President Donald] Trump administration remains committed to ending the Houthis’ capabilities to hijack freedom of navigation in the Red Sea,” Hewitt said. Furthermore, he emphasised that coordination with Israel proceeds through diplomatic means. The UK has joined in the military campaign on Yemen.
Israel’s military launched a new round of airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen’s Red Sea city of Hodeida. This escalation follows a reported Houthi missile strike near Israel’s main international airport, The Guardian via The Associated Press reported on May 5th. In direct response.
According to the Houthis’ media office, six strikes hit Hodeida’s crucial port, while additional strikes hit a cement factory in Bajil district. Israeli media reported that dozens of aircraft participated in the operation.
The Houthi missile struck an access road near Ben-Gurion International Airport, injuring four and briefly halting traffic. It marked the first strike on the airport grounds since the war began. Although, the Houthis claimed the strikes were a joint Israeli-American effort, a US defence official denied any involvement, clarifying that the action was not part of Operation Rough Rider.
However, separately the US military carried out multiple strikes in Sana’a. Meanwhile, the Houthis, aligned with Gaza’s resistance, declared that they would persist in targeting Israeli airports for as long as the military campaign in Gaza continues.
