A senior Hamas official has said there is no purpose in more Gaza ceasefire and captive release negotiations, now that Israel has okayed a widened military campaign that could include seizing all of Gaza for a period of time with no straightforward end.

Bassem Naim said Hamas will not be engaging with new offers while Israel proceeds with its “starvation war,” the BBC reported on May 6th.

On May 5th, Israel’s military explained that the intention of the far-reaching military activity was to prompt hostages held by Hamas to be freed as well as to see the Palestinian militant group defeated.
