Draft peace proposal submitted by Rwanda and Congo to end conflict

A draft peace proposal has been submitted by Congo and Rwanda, forming part of a US-driven plan which intends to end eastern Congo’s conflict, Africanews and AP reported on May 6th.
Massad Boulos, Senior adviser for Africa and the Middle East for US President Donald Trump, declared that the drafts had been given to the US by both countries, with Boulos saying it is an “important step” for achieving peace.
Earlier in 2025, the conflict intensified when M23 rebels captured major cities, such as Goma and Bukavu. The conflict has caused roughly 7,000 deaths and resulted in more than 7 million people being displaced.
