Trump picks Mike Waltz as UN ambassador following scandal

Donald Trump, the US President, nominated Mike Waltz as UN ambassador following the recent Signalgate scandal, Middle East Eye reported on May 1st.

Screenshots revealed Waltz did not remove journalist Jeffrey Goldberg from a secret Signal chat about Houthi airstrikes. Critics condemned the breach. Still, Trump stood by Waltz, who insisted Israel must remain free to strike Iran and warned Qatar to push Hamas to free all its Israeli captives.

“From his time in uniform . . . Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our nation’s Interests first,” Trump said. Trump appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim national security advisor.
