Ukraine wants longer ceasefire, criticises Russian proposal

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin on April 28th announced a three-day ceasefire for Ukraine to celebrate Victory Day in World War II, prompting Ukraine to call for a longer and sooner ceasefire, Africanews and AP reported.
According to the Kremlin, the truce was made for humanitarian reasons and will be effective from May 8th until the end of May 10th to remember Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945- the biggest non-religious holiday in Russia.
Andrii Sybiha, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, said: “If Russia truly wants peace, it must cease fire immediately.” Sybiha added that Ukraine seeks a “lasting, reliable, and complete ceasefire” for a minimum of 30 whole days.
