Syria: Sharaa to join Abraham Accords if the right conditions are met

Syria’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has said he is willing to normalise relations with Israel and join the Abraham Accords, Middle East Eye reported on April 24th.

He said he is willing to do this if the “right conditions” are met. Should this be the case, Syria would establish ties with Israel like the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco.

Republican Congressman Cory Mills said to Bloomberg that he had talked about the conditions for sanctions relief with Sharaa. He said he told the president Syria needs to destroy chemical weapons left over from Bashar al-Assad’s rule, cooperate on counterterrorism, and address foreign fighters who had joined Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
