ICC to reconsider Israel’s challenge on arrest warrants

International Court United States

Appeals judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) instructed a lower panel to reveiw Israel’s objections to the court’s jurisdiction, Reuters reported on April 24th.

The jurisdiction was over arrest warrants issued to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over their roles in the Gaza war.

According to the appeals chamber, the court had not sufficiently assessed challenges by Israel to its jurisdiction and the legitimacy of arrest warrant requests against Netanyahu and Gallant. The office of the ICC Prosecutor said it was looking into the ruling, without further comment.
