Morocco green lights plan for rail expansion worth $10b

King Mohammed VI of Morocco gave the green light for a $10.3 billion rail expansion plan, which includes a high-speed line to Marrakesh being constructed, Middle East Monitor via Reuters reported on April 25th.

With Morocco getting ready to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, the expansion of high-speed rail as well as intercity and urban networks, has been encouraged.

The high-speed route will begin at Kenitra and proceed 430 km to Marrakesh, serving the capital of Rabat and Casablanca during the route. The rail expansion plan overall is worth 96 billion in dirhams.
