The UK has dropped sanctions on the interior and defence ministries of Syria as well as a variety of the country’s intelligence agencies, pointing towards the normalisation of relations between the two nations, Middle East Eye via Reuters reported on April 24th.

The UK Treasury published a notice which stated that it had removed asset freezes on Syria’s General Intelligence Directorate, Air Force Intelligence Agency, and Political Security Directorate. Its defence and interior ministries also had their asset freezes removed.

Syria’s president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, had called for the UK and other nations to remove all the sanctions that had been enforced on Syria under the rule of Bashar al-Assad.
