Emergency teams dispatched as 6.2 magnitude quake hits Istanbul

The biggest city of Turkey, Istanbul, has been hit with a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, which according to Turkey’s media has caused emergency teams to be deployed, Middle East Eye via Reuters reported on April 23rd.

Emergency teams have started field scans, but no cases of deaths or injuries have been recorded by authorities as of yet, according to Turkey’s Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya.

The quake, which started at a depth of 6.92km was recorded off the coast of the municipality of Silivri, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said. The incident caused the people of Istanbul to rush out to the streets, in fear of buildings tumbling down.
