The people of Gaza as well as thousands of Palestine sympathisers on social media paid homage to the late Pope Francis, remembering him for his support of the Palestinian cause during Israel’s war on Gaza, the Middle East Eye reported on April 21st.

In the pope’s last speech on Easter Sunday, April 20th, the 88-year-old urged for a ceasefire in Gaza from St Peter’s Basilica’s Balcony as an assistant read a prayer.

Munther Isaac, a Palestinian pastor, grieved the loss of the pope. Isaac said Palestinians, especially Palestinian Christians, had now lost a “dear friend” who was much-loved in Palestine.
