Pope Francis dies at 88 following his call for Gaza ceasefire

Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88, according to the Vatican, following his last address that took place on April 20th, which urged for an end to the Gaza conflict, Middle East Eye reported on April 21st.

In February, the pope had been in hospital with double pneumonia. The pope was on the St Peter’s Basilica balcony on April 2oth whilst an assistant read a prayer. The pope then denounced the “deplorable humanitarian situation” prompted by Israel’s war on Gaza.

Before the pope was admitted to hospital, he had continuously and openly criticised Israel’s war on the enclave.
