The Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said that freeing the captives is not a top priority during an interview with an Israeli radio station, infuriating the families of the captives, Middle East Eye reported on April 21st.

He told Galei Israel radio station that whilst releasing the captives is important, it is “not the most important goal.”

Smotrich also said: “We need to eliminate the Gaza problem. We have a tremendous opportunity, and the excuses are gone: there’s no Biden, no [former Defence Minister] Gallant, and no former IDF chief of staff.” In a statement, the families of the captives said that the comments are shameful.
