Israeli troops to stay put in Lebanon, Gaza and Syria

The Israeli defence minister said on April 16th that his country’s troops will indefinitely stay put in security zones located in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip, which could present difficulties in the process of ceasefire talks with Hamas, France 24 reported.
The minister, Israel Katz, said: “Unlike in the past, the (Israeli military) is not evacuating areas that have been cleared and seized.” Over half of Gaza has been taken over by Israeli troops in a bid to push Hamas to free hostages after the ceasefire ended in March.
Israel has also failed to withdraw from some parts of Lebanon, after its ceasefire with Hezbollah in 2024.
