Israel’s military intends to turn Rafah, a city in the south of the Gaza Strip into a buffer zone, the Middle East Eye via Haaretz reported on April 9th.

Sitting on the border with Egypt, the city is thousands of years old and had a population of 200,000 Palestinians, before Israel’s conflict with Gaza began in October 2023.

Haaretz reported: “According to defense sources, it has yet to be decided whether the entire area will simply be designated a buffer zone that is off-limits to civilians . . . or whether the area will be fully cleared and all buildings demolished . . .”
