Hamas has told UK lawyers to challenge the UK’s move in 2021 to classify the Palestinian group as a terrorist organisation, Middle East Eye reported on April 9th.

Legal papers viewed by Middle East Eye reveal that the head of Hamas’s foreign relations office, Mousa Abu Marzouk, told lawyers to challenge the move by former UK Home Secretary Priti Patel to wholly proscribe the group.

Over 20 years ago, the UK proscribed the Qassam Brigades, which is the group’s military division. However, Patel decided to widen the ban to the entire group, claiming there was no longer a difference between the organisation’s political and military divisions.
