Ex-central bank governor of Lebanon referred for trial by judge

The ex-head of Lebanon’s central bank, Riad Salameh, has been referred to court by a Lebanese judge on April 8th, over the purported embezzlement of $44 million of funds from the bank, according to a judicial official.

This follows Salameh being arrested in Lebanon over the case, seven months ago, Al-Monitor via AFP reported. Salameh, who ran the central bank for 30 years, faces a number of allegations such as embezzlement, money laundering and tax evasion, in different investigations in Lebanon and elsewhere.

The judge issued a decision on April 8th, which charged Salameh with the embezzlement of “$44 million from the central bank.”
