Zimbabwe arrests 95 following anti-president protests

Capture

The police of Zimbabwe said it had arrested 95 people following a day of demonstrations called by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s opponents, Africanews reported on April 1st.

The group appeared before a Harare court on charges of promoting violence in public. The level of protestors was low, with most people avoiding the streets.

A copy of the police charges alleged that the suspects had thrown stones and blocked off a street while they gathered in Freedom Square in Harare. The police and government officials had tried to persuade the public to take no notice of the call for a protest and to continue their typical day-to-day activities.
