An international health organisation has said that one million children could die from avoidable diseases, if the US halts its financial aid, the BBC reported on March 27th.

Dr Sania Nishtar, who is the head of Gavi, which is an alliance that purchases vital vaccines for developing countries, said to the BBC a cut in US financial support would cause a “disastrous impact on global health security”.

This comes after a report from the New York Times which said that the Trump administration plans to stop Gavi’s funding, with the US being the alliance’s third biggest financial provider.
