AFP photographer covering Turkey protests freed from jail

An AFP photographer who was arrested covering Turkey’s most extreme protests in over 10 years was released from an Istanbul jail, according to AFP correspondents, but his lawyer said the charges made against him have not been dropped, Al-Monitor via AFP reported on March 27th.
The photographer, Yasin Akgul, was detained in a raid at his home on March 24th and was reportedly remanded in custody by a court in Istanbul on March 25th.
Akgul was charged with “taking part in illegal rallies and marches”, prompting anger from rights groups and AFP, which is based in Paris.
