A dispute about whether to allow Syrian, Afghani and Turkish refugees entry to Germany is stalling the formation of a new government in Berlin, The National reported on March 25th.

The term of Olaf Scholz as chancellor officially came to an end as the new parliament of Germany met for the first time. Scholz had been asked to stay in a caretaker position until a new coalition has been put together.

The country’s Prime minister-in-waiting, Friedrich Merz has campaigned to obstruct asylum seekers in the country’s borders, which Scholz said is illegal, based on EU law.
