RSF leader threatens Sudanese army with new offensives

Sudan-Dagalo

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo vowed to continue fighting against the Sudanese army.

Middle East Monitor reported on his video statement on March 17th, which said that his forces would not retreat from the presidential palace or Khartoum.

Dagalo also threatened further attacks, including on Port Sudan, which has the HQ of UN agencies and diplomatic missions.

“The situation is different now,” he said. “The war is inside Khartoum, and we will not leave the presidential palace.”

His warning extended to “countries that supported the army,” stating that they “will pay the price.”

Turkey recently supplied Bayraktar TB2 drones to Sudan, which bolstered the capabilities of the Sudanese military against the RSF. A source reportedly said the drones targeted RSF logistics convoys, artillery batteries and response units. Moreover, a senior Sudanese military officer emphasised the impact of the Turkish drones, noting that their introduction marked the end of the RSF’s military advantage.

The statement comes amid growing battlefield progress for the Sudanese army in recent months.

Two weeks ago, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan ruled out any negotiations with the RSF, unless they back down. “There would be no negotiations unless they surrender their weapons and hold their members accountable,” he said.

The war has displaced the Sudanese and devastated Sudan’s infrastructure. As fighting intensifies, Sudan faces an increasingly dire future.
