Appointment of Tunisian as head of Syria’s drama industry raises eyebrows

Tunisian pick to lead Syria's drama industry sparks controversy

A Tunisian national has been picked by President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s administration as the head of Syria’s drama industry, baffling Syrians due to the dramatic talent within the country, The New Arab reported on March 21st.

This week, Marouane El Hossein was picked as the new chairman of the Syrian Drama Committee. But Hossein’s promotion has been condemned by some people on social media who asked why Damascus did not pick a Syrian, considering the country’s history of producing critically acclaimed television series, as well as being home to some of the most renowned actors and directors within Arab nations.
