UK’s Lammy condemns Israeli minister’s “total devastation” threat

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has condemned Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz for his comments threatening Palestinians in Gaza on March 20th, the Middle East Eye reported. Katz’s remarks, widely criticised as inciting genocide, have sparked renewed debate in parliament.
In a video message directed at Gaza residents on March 19th, Katz warned that “soon, the evacuation of the population from combat zones will resume, and what follows will be far more severe – you will pay the full price. Return the hostages and remove Hamas – the alternative is total devastation.”
When asked to clarify the UK’s stance to such comments, Lammy said: “I do condemn those words, and I would ask minister Katz who’s very experienced to withdraw them.”
This marks the first time a British minister has condemned a senior Israeli minister for comments about Gaza that have been described as genocidal since the war began in 2023.
