Ukraine-Russia prisoner swap mediated by UAE
The United Arab Emirates mediated a prisoner exchange between warring countries, Russia and Ukraine, on March 19th, Al Monitor reported.
The exchange saw 175 prisoners from each country return to their homes, according to the official Emirates News Agency. This recent exchange brings the total number of people returned home from Ukraine and Russia through Emirati mediation efforts to 3,233.
The news of the swap came after a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir on March 18th, during which they spoke about the ongoing war.
The UAE has strengthened its ties with Ukraine, finalising a trade deal last month during President Zelensky’s visit.
