AI takes center stage in UAE-US talks, as Gaza war drifts from focus

The UAE signalled a significant shift its priorities during Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed’s White House visit: AI investment is in, and Israel’s war on Gaza is out, the Middle East Eye reported on March 19th.
Tahnoon bin Zayed, UAE national security advisor, met Trump and US officials to deepen Emirati investments in AI, technology, and infrastructure.
He controls artificial intelligence group G42, which secured $1.5bn from Microsoft. His visit aimed to ease US restrictions on AI chip exports.
The UAE is moving closer to the US, investing billions in AI and energy. Notably absent from discussions was Gaza, highlighting the UAE’s divergence from Gulf neighbours, as it continues engagement with Israel despite regional opposition.
