Saudi Arabia establishes unit to tackle begging and prostitution

Saudi Arabia has set up a unit to tackle acts that are deemed immoral, with dozens being arrested in a clampdown on begging and prostitution, The New Arab reported on March 18th.
The ministry of interior’s new sting unit intends to tackle an increase in “public immorality” in the cities of the country, following the ease of social rules in the country.
Previously, the country had a body called the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, also known as the religious police, which intended to combat actions that were deemed to be anti-Islamic, such as immodest attire and music, but its authority was majorly curtailed in 2016, by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
