Israel’s attacks have continuously targeted Gaza’s health facilities since it started its war on the enclave during October 2023. The OCHA has estimated that of its 36 hospitals, just 17 remained partly operative by early December last year.

Reportedly, the initial phase of reconstruction would focus on converting temporary housing units into permanent structures, according to the Middle East Monitor.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas endorsed Egypt’s reconstruction plan for Gaza, which would not result in the displacement of Palestinians. He also expressed readiness for elections in 2026, and emphasising the need for ceasefire stability and humanitarian aid.

During the Arab Summit, held in Cairo on March 4th key agreements were made, including a firm rejection of Palestinian displacement, according to Egypt’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty. Abdelatty said that during the summit a plan was presented to address the severe destruction in Gaza.
